Dynamic shadow generation also seems to be a problem, but we cannot understand to what extent due to the different positioning of the sun in the new version.
So what did Elemental lose in the transition from PC to PS4? The most noticeable difference is the lack of real-time global illumination, which produced noticeable effects such as the ? bounce ? of light sources on different materials. “Despite some differences and trade-offs, Elemental is impressive even on still new hardware like PS4.”
#Unreal engine 4 tech demos Ps4
In terms of detail, physics and effects, Elemental on PS4 is still a remarkable job, and we believe that Unreal Engine 4 will be for new consoles what UE3 is for PS3 and Xbox 360, which is the most widely used middleware for title development. Technologically, it’s clear that the elaborate effects of the original PC version have been reduced, which is unsurprising given the additional computing power the GTX 680 has compared to next-gen console technology.ĭespite some cuts, the overall impression conveyed by the PS4 version is positive. It is evident that Epic has not simply ? converted ? its demo but has revised various elements, giving in some cases the impression of having obtained a greater level of detail, and in others of not having been able to find an adequate solution. The power relationship between the two platforms cannot be understood simply by looking at the videos of the two versions side by side. Obviously this is a first demonstration and the Unreal Engine 4 itself is still young and in development, but the comparison can serve to measure the competitiveness of the PS4 hardware compared to a high-end PC.
#Unreal engine 4 tech demos code
This should give us an idea of the changes Epic has made to the code to adapt it to the new platform. Having seen it running on a PS4 development kit prompted us to compare the two versions. The latter was first shown last year, when it ran on a PC with a Core i7 and Nvidia GTX 680 video card. The presentation of the Unreal Engine 4 on PlayStation 4 that took place during the GDC allowed us to review the Elemental demo.
